Dr Nisia Trindade Lima

President, Fundação Oswaldo Cruz, Brazil

President of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation. She holds a PhD in Sociology (1997) and Master’s degree in Political Science (1989) from the University Research Institute of Rio de Janeiro (IUPERJ – current IESP). She is a senior researcher at the Casa de Oswaldo Cruz/Oswaldo Cruz Foundation and a professor of the Graduate Program of History of Science and Health. She is also a collaborating professor of the Graduate Program in Sociology at IESP/UERJ, adjunct professor of sociology at the University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) and member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC). Among her publications, “Um Sertão Chamado Brasil” stands out (Editora HUCITEC – 2013-2nd edition). She works mainly on the following issues: science and social thinking in Brazil; history of ideas in public health; sertão in Brazilian thought; history of development in Brazil and history of social sciences in health. She was a member of the WHO Global Action Plan Accelerator 5 working group (2018), which aims to optimize global research for countries’ health systems, and also of the WHO Accelerator 7 Advisory Group for the Implementation of SDG3 of the 2030 Agenda (2019). Besides that, she is the Co-Chair of the UNSDSN Health for All Network (2019) and was the Co-Chair of the Economic Recovery Steering Group to advise on the development of a United Nations Research Roadmap for COVID-19 Recovery (2020).
